He rides into the entrance, takes a turn to the right, and into a quiet corridor. It reeks of offensive toilet odour. The dingy concrete ground is replete with litters and phlegm marks. Getting off the bicycle before a door, he plucks a bunch of keys from his waist belt, picks out a key, enters it into the key hole and turns. With a thundering clank, the heavy burglar-proof door opens to a pitch dark chamber.
Holding the door wide open with his back, he pushes his bike in. At the doorway, he reaches out for a pendulous cord, gives it a pull, and then the light is on. The room is permeated with a stale smell. After parking the bike secure, he switches on a power outlet board with his right thumb. A crisply metallic noise erupts. On the board a tiny red indicator light gleams, giving him further assurance. Next, he lifts his right foot along the front panel of a computer, presses the left front edge of his shoe against the protruding switch. The room echoes with the loud sound emitting from the speakers caused by electricity shock and the light droning of the electrical fans inside the desktop case.
Then he bends down to push the power-on button on the side of a radiator. Seeing to all these done, he strides up to the window, clutches a corner of the thick velvet curtain and draws it up. Immediately brilliant daylight comes flooding in. Through the window canes he can see fresh green trees, brown dirt ground and blue sky. His spirits soar on seeing this beautiful framed picture. He urgently bangs the window open. Involuntarily he takes a deep breath and stretches his limbs.
The log-on tune plays out pleasingly, warning him the desktop is on standby. He steps over and sits at the desk top. The quartz clock is ticking in the background, louder than usual. He holds the mouse in his hand and clicks away, a sensation of bliss astir in his heart.
