　　Hunger-strikers plan to lodge a protest with the central government following the closure of several websites highlighting the death of a three-year-old girl, whose mother was detained by Sichuan police for alleged theft.
　　
　　“About 10 websites were either closed or had their information removed, leaving two still operating. We find it unacceptable,“ said one protester. He said the action was stupid, outdated and violated freedom of _expression.
　　
　　“It looks like the government has launched another round of banning information they dislike. This is very bad, and they will fail. Today they close down one; tomorrow there will be others. We will continue our efforts to voice our concerns.“
　　
　　He did not know if an online petition would restore the sites but said it would at least illustrate opposition to the government’s “high-handed“ approach.
　　
　　The toddler, Li Shiyi, died in June, 17 days after police detained her mother, Li Guifang. The mother, a drug addict who was forced to undergo three months of rehabilitation, reportedly begged police to tell her sister to look after the girl.
　　
　　The incident caused a public uproar and demands that the authorities who detained Li Guifang be held accountable for their actions.
　　
　　About 250 people have signed up to take part in a 24-hour relay fast lasting 17 days – the length of time the girl suffered.
　　
　　One of the hunger-strikers, who uses the pseudonym Qin Geng, said: “All government-backed websites have deleted messages in which the name Li Shiyi was mentioned. Even messages on some commercial websites were removed.“
　　
　　On National Day tomorrow, more than 20 people are expected to fast, compared with the normal daily number of 10, he said. “This is a very special day. When people are celebrating, we feel particularly pained and heartbroken, and try to find a way to express our grief.“
